We are delighted to announce the first half of the National Theatre of Scotland’s 10th birthday year programme which sees the Company travelling widely throughout Scotland, as well as presenting world –class Scottish theatre on stages in London, England, North America, Australia, New Zealand and South Korea. We are thrilled to be celebrating ten years of working with the best Scottish theatre-makers with a programme that reflects a robust and aspiring national theatre, collaborating with artists and theatres across the country to make adventurous and powerful work.

The Cheviot, The Stag and the Black, Black Oil | 16 May - 22 June 2019 This legendary piece of Scottish theatre tells the story of the exploitation of Scottish lands, waters and people over the centuries. From the highland clearances to the oil boom, this is the universal tale of how the greed of a few blights the lives of many. Add a generous dose of Scottish rebellion and irreverence. Throw in some live music and a riotous ceilidh – you’ve got yourself a rollicking great night out. Following 2015’s hugely successful restaging, this new version of The Cheviot takes the story back to its roots, visiting intimate art centres and community spaces, echoing the play’s original 1970s tour by 7:84. Catch up with the events of the Fourth day of the Exchange 2018 Festival from Eden Court in Inverness. On Thursday, the participants enjoyed risky, political, and hilarious workshops Thursday's performances were San Marino 1972 by Dundee Rep Young Company and The Happiness Project by Creative Electric. ExchangeTV will produce a daily highlights video from the festival, showing the best of the creative happenings, and offers aspiring young filmmakers the opportunity to enhance their filming, editing and broadcasting skills and experience.

Internationally-renowned theatre director Anthony Nicholl has travelled the globe on a life-long quest to discover the true essence of theatre. Today he gives a masterclass. Demonstrating first-hand, the methods he cultivated in Africa and cultures throughout the world. Promise, an aspiring actress, has been hand-picked to participate. What unfolds between them forces Nicholl to question all of his assumptions about his life and art. How to Act explores the contemporary realities of personal, cultural and economic exploitation through two individuals drawn together in the theatre. Both believe in truth, but each has their own version of it.

In 2016 eleven young men from Parade Gardens in Kingston, Jamaica travelled to Scotland for the first time, bringing their powerful parkour performance Run Free to the National Theatre of Scotland’s Home/Away festival. Sashi, from Kingston, shares his story of overcoming prejudice and being true to himself.
